populations in ecology
Try this virtual lab to learn about how different resources affect population growth.
Watch a video lesson about how populations of organisms can interact within an ecosystem. |
|
symbiosis: How do organisms interact within ecosystems?
Commensalism: A relationship in which one species benefits and the other is unharmed.
Example: Remora fish attach to sharks and eat the leftovers of the shark's kills. |
Mutualism: A relationship in which both species benefit from
an interaction.
Examples: Bees benefit from nectar on flowers, flowers benefit from pollination. Parasitism: A relationship in which one species benefits (the parasite) and the other species (the host) is harmed.
Example: Ticks are insects that attach to the skin of animals and feed off their blood. As a result, ticks produce toxins that can make animals sick. |
